How did his earlier iteration inspire you to create your song and where/when did you first see it?Ī: I believe it was just making its rounds on the internet at the time. Q: Back in late 2018, CM Skits’ “American Boy Fortnite Parody” video dropped a few months before your version. Eventually, I started writing parody lyrics in calls with my friends which is where that side of things began. That got around 500,000 views, which was my first big video and that was pretty exciting. I eventually made a video called “Do Ya Thing Without Music,” which was a Gorillaz music video I had edited to replace the music with Foley sound effects and such. I was getting a few thousand views or so on each of the videos. Q: So would you tell us a little more about your background and who you are? How’d you get into making parody music and when did you start your YouTube channel?Ī: So I think I started my channel in 2015 but didn’t upload much until around 2017 when I was making theory videos on a mobile game called My Singing Monsters. There’s one in specific as of recent that’s sort of getting a little big right now. Let’s start off with a quick intro about who you are and what you’re known for.Ī: Hey! I’m Leviathan and I made a few popular Fortnite parodies that have made their rounds on the internet lately, you might know them. Q: Welcome and thanks for joining us, Leviathan. Now that it’s racked up over 10 million views, become a TikTok trend, meme format via Tomato Town Massacre and more, here’s what Leviathan himself had to say about it all. We caught up with Leviathan earlier this week to find out more about how he created the song, where the inspiration came from, and how he’s been handling the influx of attention online since it swept the internet in recent weeks. The song in question, of course, is none other than “Chug Jug With You.” If you haven’t heard it yet, we’re sorry for getting it stuck in your head. By now, most have heard this infamous Fortnite parody that, despite being sung by a squeaker, is an incredibly catchy earworm. T just 13 years old, YouTuber Leviathan uploaded a parody song to his channel in 2018 featuring Estelle’s Grammy-nominated “American Boy.” For years, it sat in relative obscurity before exploding this year and giving life to a multitude of meme formats and viral trends.

It didn't really grab me, but was interesting enough that I may revisit it post-Duelyst. Totally different than Stormbound, I always get them confused in my library - but also a tactical, turn-based game. This is another I've been playing for quite a while, so I'm a little burnt out on it, but if you haven't played it before, I recommend it highly. The # of cards to collect is far more limited and it isn't quite as deep, but the tactics of it are definitely interesting and fun. However, it's based on custom-building your own decks from various factions, has a great art style, and last I checked, a very active player base. It's more a straight-on advance/penetrate the enemy tower type of thing. This has the chessboard-like element that Duelyst does, though it's only 4x5 (I think?) and the gameplay isn't as flexible. Overall, however, a great game, one of the few I'd put on about the same level as Duelyst. The only thing I don't like about the game are the obnoxious chatroom, and the devs doing too much needless (and sometimes misguided) "rebalancing" lately. The breadth of cards isn't nearly as big as Duelyst's, but there's more than enough to make it addictive, and it takes a while to discover the various layers of tactics inherent in its gameplay. I do still play semi-regularly, and if you haven't tried it before, I definitely recommend giving it a shot. I'm getting a bit bored with it, but it took quite a while for me to start to feel that way. This is an excellent, highly addictive deckbuilding PvP game with a highly active player base, active development, and superb art/production. But here are my thoughts on a few vaguely similar-ish games that I've tried: So - what are your recommendations? If you've found other games that compete with Duelyst and the unique itch that it scratches, please share them! I personally do not currently know of a game that really competes with Duelyst because Duelyst is so unique. And while I see a lot of new tactical deckbuilders being released or slated for release - the majority of them get pretty crappy reviews, have small player bases, a lame art-style, or some combination thereof. On the not-so-bright side, Duelyst's fusion of tactics/deckbuilding/chess-board-like gameplay is pretty one-of-a-kind at present, not to mention the huge amount of cards and content. On the bright side, turn-based, tactics-style games and deckbuilders seem to be on rise, popularity wise. Let's share some recommendations/alternatives. I got into Duelyst a few months ago and man it's good. Scrapping this game out of existence is such a shame. If you had an extra $500 and enough free time on your hands to buy one before they sold out, you could own a skateboard with Tony Hawk’s blood. Although, they may already be sold out by the time you read this. That’s good! Maybe you can give money to those groups without supporting Liquid Death’s nonsense? If you really want to get something for your charity, though, then we guess you can drop $500 on a skateboard that has Tony Hawk’s blood in it for some reason. However, a portion of the profits do go to 5 Gyres – an anti-plastic non-profit – and Tony Hawk’s Skatepark Project. It’s so performatively edgy but falls so short. Hawk gave his blood to be mixed in with paint used on these decks so that a bit of Hawk’s blood will be in every one of these decks, which are going for $500 apiece. Liquid Death is also selling 100 skateboards infused with Tony Hawk’s blood. Their slogan is “Murder Your Thirst” and they kind of feel like they are trying to be the Cards Against Humanity of water, but somehow even less funny and more tiring?
